Bloggers’ Challenge 82 – Same but Different
Today’s Bloggers’ Challenge was to create two cards…same but different. Either use the same layout and different sets (as I did) or use the same set and create two different cards.
I decided to use the card we did in my class the other night as one and then use the same layout for another card. The heart card from the set Always used the Thumping technique with markers. Since I used two colors close together in hue (Rose Red and Regal Rose), the Thumping color variation is subtle. I also used the new Raspberry Fizz designer paper! Love the bright colors. I pulled out a little used color, Orchid Opulence, for the base of my card! It goes surprisingly well. I used a strip of Rose Red for the Scallop Edge punch. Always is stamped in Rose Red and then the little flower medallion in the center with Cameo Coral, and I added a gold mini brad to the center. I punched the white with the 1 1/4 circle and the Cameo Coral with the 1 3/8 to mat. The circles are popped up with dimensionals.
On the second baby card, I used the retiring set, Bundled in Love and retiring paper, Georgia Peach. I took my colors from the designer paper and colored the little hippo with Pretty in Pink markers and my Aqua Painter on Shimmer paper. For Baby was stamped with Basic Black on both the Whisper White and Pretty in Pink and punched with the small tag punch. I hand-cut around the outline on the white to make the lines stand out a little more and secured both layers with an Old Olive mini brad. The Scallop Edge punch was used on Old Olive and the base card is Pretty in Pink. I folded over a couple small pieces of white Taffeta ribbon and placed under the top of the hippo layers for added interest. I think the pink Hippo is just TOO cute!
Hope you have a wonderful weekend. As of right now, we have NOTHING planned…I enjoy those types of weekends! Hopefully, I can get a little personal stamping done!
Dream A Little
Like most stampers, I love flower sets. In fact, I have TONS of flower sets, but keep buying new ones. This one was a preorder for the Level 3 Hostess Only set, Dream A Little. I love the two-step flowers in it, although I only did one step on these. This is one of the Leadership swap cards I made for my SSUS group.
I stamped the large flower with Tangerine Tango, Pixie Pink and So Saffron on Glossy White paper, then cut them out (great TV time busy work!) I also stamped the small flower 3 times with Tangerine Tango on Glossy White, punched them with the 1/2 circle and placed a gold mini brad in the center. The layout is a sketch from somewhere…sorry, I don’t remember where I found it. I used the new Raspberry Fizz Designer Paper and Rose Red grosgrain ribbon. The base card is Regal Rose layered with So Saffron and a strip of Tangerine Tango. Love the bright colors on this one. The background swirl is from Priceless.
Finally, today is a relaxing day for me. The bitter cold and snow will keep me inside, too. Hopefully, I’ll have time to work on my Control Freaks Sale-A-Bration swap. I also need to do a major clearing out in my Studio.
Last week for the retiring stamp sets and accessories! Don’t miss out…email me today!
Game Night – DCBD Color 110
I’m finally glad to be getting back into a routine I’ve been out of since before the holidays! One of the things I’ve missed doing is the Diva Coffee Break Designer challenges. This week’s challenge was to use the color combination of Riding Hood Red, Very Vanilla, Kraft and Close to Cocoa. Close to Cocoa isn’t really a poker chip color in real life, but I still liked how this turned out!
Thanks to Annette for the inspiration on what to use for the center of a poker chip. I used the circle stamp in Think Happy Thoughts. (Annette used one of the circles in Big Flowers.) As I mentioned before, I was confused on why Stampin’ Up! didn’t include a poker chip in the set, but did on the Jackpot Designer Paper…now I can make them up in any color I want!
This card started with a base of Riding Hood Red, then a layer of Kraft cardstock. I added a 2" strip of Jackpot Designer Paper and a strip of Riding Hood Red that I punched with the scallop edge punch. The Poker Chip is the bottom of the basket die from Basket & Blooms and I cut one out of Very Vanilla and Close to Cocoa. I stamped Big Winner in Close to Cocoa on Very Vanilla, then trimmed the edge to a pennant shape with my Photo Corner punch. I think this would make a great masculine birthday card!
It is SNOWING big time here. Guess I need to get out there and run the snow blower. I have to run to the post office, too. Yuk!
Check out the rest of the DCBD challenge cards this week!

EDIT: OK…the Close to Cocoa chip bugged me so I made another one with the Black Poker Chip…I like it better! I did do a little research online and I guess poker chips do come in ALL colors!
I’m back!
Yes! I’m back from Leadership. I came home Sunday afternoon and really needed yesterday to catch up on laundry and the house, so I tried to stay off the computer.
Regarding Leadership, all I can say is WOW! I love the smaller size and intimacy of Leadership and I heard so many great ideas. Of course, the new catalog is awesome! I already have a full page list of things I want! I’m hoping that the tracking is correct and my catalogs will be here tomorrow (or Wednesday at latest!) I’ll be sure to email all those that preordered as soon as they appearl
I wish I could show you some of the awesome things we saw in the catalog…but we aren’t allowed to show display boards, etc, until the catalog goes live…so…you’ll need to wait another week. However, I can show you one of the swap cards I made.
A couple of my fellow Control Freaks and I got together for dinner (hi Julie, Liz and Annette!) and did a mini swap. We made 4 cards for each of the others. I loved doing this last year and those swaps were some of my favorites…this year is the same!
So, here is card #1…be watching over the next few days for the rest, plus the cute little box I put them in. I’ll be doing the box tutorial later this week. I ordered Game Night right away because of the dice. Then when I received it, I was kind of stumped on what I wanted to do with it. I was using this set for my Control Freaks swap, so here is one of the cards I made while working on that swap. I decided to use it for my SSUS group swap at Leadership and for my Swappers 4 group instead of the Control Freaks.
I started with a base of Basic Black, then layered So Saffron. I cut a 4×4 piece of the Jackpot Designer Paper. I love the poker chips, but they didn’t include a poker chip stamp. So, I used the bottom of the Basket & Blooms die and made my own poker chip out of black! On that I layered the 1 3/4 Real Red circle punch and then the game piece stamped in red on Glossy White cardstock and punched with the 1 3/8" circle punch. I added Real Red 5/8 grosgrain ribbon to separate the DSP from the cardstock, and stamped Big Winner in Basic Black on the bottom right, adding a couple gold mini brads under it.
What do you think? Leave me a comment…would love to hear from you! Got to run get ready for class tonight! Yikes! I know what I’m doing, but haven’t started cutting paper yet.
A Happy Heart
Real quick post…I’m headed to Leadership in about 1/2 hour! Sorry I did not get any posts set up to post while I’m gone. The outage the other night put me way behind. I will have TONS of swap ideas and samples to share when I get back. I’m excited about a couple things I made!
Here is A Happy Heart…your last chance to get this set from the Holiday mini is January 18th! Again…I love that Tic-Tac-Toe image.
Have a great week! See ya when I get back!
Woohoo!!!
Ryleigh Name Frame
I must apologize that my BLOG was down last night unexpectedly. Evidentally, they decided to do a major server upgrade around 9:00 PM and knocked me out of service for the rest of the night. Of course, it came in the middle of me doing posts for the week (while I’m at Leadership) and has set me HOURS behind.
I usually make name frames for each of my great nieces and nephews on their first birthday or first Christmas. My niece reminded me that I forgot to make Ryleigh’s, so this was her Christmas gift this year. I love making these…so quick and easy with the Headline Alphabet set and Scrappin’ Kits. I used Summer Days Scrappin’ Kit that retired last spring since I had a couple kits left over from the make & take I did for our Stamping/Scrapping Retreat in November. The Kit has the textured Wasabi cardstock in it, so I cut that to the frame size, then placed a couple of the 12" border strips on top and bottom. I inked up the letters with Pumpkin Pie, Real Red and Wild Wasabi. Then I just added the flower sticky die-cuts with dimensionals, some ribbon and hardware. Literally, it came together in about a half hour and I was really pleased. My niece LOVED it (and since she is pregnant with #4, I guess I’ll be making another one next year!)
I’m getting really excited about leaving for Leadership on Tuesday! I finished my roommate gifts, made my organized swaps and a few general swaps for those online friends I run into…just want to make up some 3D items to swap. I have a really cute box idea I want to share…I’ll take pictures so I can show you, too, when I get back!
The RETIRED ACCESSORIES list comes out today! Don’t delay if you want something…they sell out quickly!
Card holders
I wanted to show you a couple card holders I made for Christmas gifts this year. Two were for the boys’ girlfriends and the last one for my mother-in-law. Inside I made 8 cards with stamped envelopes to match. They were a big hit with everyone, but I didn’t get them done until the day before Christmas Eve! Way too late for me!
As you can see, I used some of my retired papers for a couple of them…I knew Allie and Carol liked pinks and yellows. I still like the Spring Flowers paper we sold a couple years ago! The other one uses Urban Garden because I knew Beth liked blue colors. Note: I thought it was funny when I was making them that their names spelled out A, B, C! Just easily amused, I guess!
The monograms were stamped with Lovely Letters (LOVE that set!) and punched with the scallop square, then layered several times with the colors in the papers.
The box is held closed with a velcro dot. The ribbon on the top is just for decoration. I told the girls to keep their boxes and I will refill them when they need more. My mother-in-law let me know at Christmas that she also needs sympathy cards and birthday cards…guess what she’ll get for her birthday in February!
Well, I’m going to take down the tree today. It feels like we JUST put it up! I can’t believe the holiday season is over already. But, I know that if it doesn’t come down this weekend, it will be TWO weeks from now before I can get to it since I’ll be at Leadership next week! Woohoo! I’m excited to go and see the new catalog.
Have a great weekend!

Blogger’s Challenge 80 – Color
Happy New Year everyone! Hope you had a wonderful holiday. I watched football games with my husband most of the day, but was also able to work on my swaps for Leadership and Control Freaks! A productive day! Just took a little pre-planning…I stamped and punched everything out in the morning while watching the Rose Parade and then adhered everything together during the games.
Today’s Blogger’s Challenge was to use a color combination of Baja Breeze, Chocolate Chip, a Red and White/Vanilla. I thought I’d take the opportunity to use another one of my favorite sets in the mini catalog…I’m hoping it will be in the new BIG catalog…but I have a feeling it won’t be. So…it is your last chance to pick up this wonderful set! (January 18 is the last day to order from the mini.)
I used a blender pen and reinkers to pick up the colors like a marker and colored the different parts of the tic-tac-toe stamp (my favorite!) in Baja Breeze, Riding Hood Red and Chocolate Chip, then stamped on Whisper White. I stamped the center LOVE again in Riding Hood Red and punched it with the 1/2 circle punch and popped it up in the center with dimensionals. I layered that onto Chocolate Chip. Then used a layer of Riding Hood Red and put that on Chocolate Chip, too! The top layer is popped up with dimensionals.
I also used a scrap piece of Ski Slope designer paper (another thing in the mini that will probably not be in the new Spring/Summer catalog since it is a winter paper) on the background of Baja Breeze. I used the Word Window punch twice and cut them to different lengths and adhered to the upper left corner. I punched the small heart from the new Heart to Heart punch (available with the Love You Much Bundle) from Riding Hood Red and adhered to the ends. Finally, I used some Crystal Effects on the hearts and the center Love heart.
Pretty simple…but I like the layout and didn’t want to clutter up the background too much.
Well, I’m off to work on more swaps! Have a wonderful day…
