SSC101 Sketch Challenge – Great Grads
Woohoo! I have some exciting news for all of you…a few Stampin’ Up! demos have gotten together and started a new Stamping Blog called Stamping 411! The blog will focus on stamping basics for new and occasional stampers, but the Design Operators will also feature tips, tutorials, videos and weekly sketch challenges for everyone! I encourage you to visit the blog on a regular basis for fabulous inspiration and stamping advice.
The sketch shown here is our very first one! You are encouraged to play along with us and then share your creation by linking it back to the Stamping 411 blog. Add your link in Mr. Linky over there! Be sure to use the sketch number SSC101 if you are posting your creation to SplitcoastStampers. We can’t wait to see what you create!
This card is the official one for my son. As I mentioned, he graduated from Ohio State University, so I used the colors of Scarlett & Gray…or as close as I could get using Real Red and Going Gray cardstock! The base card is Going Gray. I ran the Real Red layer thur the Checkerboard Texturz plate in the Big Shot for a patterned background. Then I stamped the trio congratulations stamp from Great Grads in Going Gray ink on Going Gray cardstock and sponged the edges. I layered that on Basic Black and then Whisper White. I wrapped the 5/8 Real Red Ribbon around the layers and placed a White Basic Jumbo Grommet (in the Occasions Mini) , then I brought up the ribbon thru the inside of the Grommet and tied a knot. The G medallion stamp, also from Great Grads, was inked with Basic Black and stamped on Whisper White, then inked with Real Red and stamped on Whisper White. I used the 1 3/4 Circle Punch for the large circle and the 1 1/4 circle punch to trim out the G in the center. The G is popped up with dimensionals and so is the entire medallion over the ribbon.
Remember, check out the Stamping411 to see more creations made with this sketch. And, again, show us what YOU do with the sketch and leave a link on that Blog to your creation!
Have a wonderful weekend!

Bloggers Challenge – Graduation
Today’s Bloggers’ Challenge was to make a graduation card. Very appropriate for me since I have one that just graduated from Ohio State University. I didn’t use Gray for this card, just the black, red, and white. You could make it in any school color!
I started with a 5 1/2" square of Basic Black cardstock, found the center point and then folded each point to the center…this is a little tricky because you need to make sure each side is meeting exactly. I did use my Score Pal to help with the crease lines. After I folded all the sides, I pierced a hole in the middle, added a Silver Jumbo Brad and a small tassel I had in my stash.
The inside is pretty simple! I cut a Real Red square the size of the inside and layered it. I used the stamp set Great Grads to stamp the circle Graduate in Real Red on Whisper White and punched with the 1 3/4 circle punch. Then I stamped it again in Basic Black and punched with the 1 3/8" circle punch. The Black G in the center is popped up on dimensionals. I stamped the trio of Congratulations from Great Grads underneath the G medallion. Finally, I used Go Go Boots dies and my Big Shot Machine to make the 09 numbers. Pretty simple! Once you make a template of the outside, they would be pretty easy to mass produce. I didn’t worry about the back (greeting side) panels staying closed…I like how the flaps open slightly and help hold the card up for display! Closed, the card measures 3 3/4 square.
I can’t believe it is almost the weekend again! This week FLEW by! Have a great one!
Meet Shelli!
For those of you who have never met Shelli Gardner, the CEO of Stampin’ Up!, here is an excellent video of how she started Stampin’ Up! and shows video of the present day office and distribution buildings! She is just as genuine in person as she is on this video. I’ve been blessed to have chatted with her a couple different times at Leadership. Check this out!
My Stamp Club meets tonight. It seems like forever since we’ve gotten together! We are doing some fun projects…hope they like them!
Have a great day!
Great Friend
Really…I do have other sets! Great Friend just happens to be on TOP of my stamping desk, so I’ve been using it quite a bit. I like how quick and easy the smaller stamps in this set work together…and that butterfly just goes with everything! lol!
Last night, I participated in SUDSOL’s Chat & Challenge. Each week we meet in the SUDSOL chat room and are given a sketch to work with. Since I’ve been kind of slow getting back into stamping, I thought it would be a great start. The sketch is awesome and I know I’ll be using it again.
For this card, I started with the Designer Paper, Walk in the Park, that is in the Occasions Mini. I like the subtle colors in it. My base card is Baja Breeze and I layered Regal Rose over it. I first ran the Regal Rose thru the Dotted Texturz Plate so it has some texture to it. I also rounded the corners since the center flower DSP piece had rounded corners in the sketch. On the floral DSP, I added some Basic Gray Taffeta Ribbon. The plaid DSP is the opposite side of the floral in Walk in the Park and I thought it coordinated well and lightened up the entire card. Finally, I stamped the Great Friend butterfly with Baja Breeze and cut it out, then added two clear small Rhinestone Brads for his body. I also stamped the label with Regal Rose and added the greeting in the center with Basic Gray and cut the label out. Both the label and the butterfly are popped up with dimensionals on the card. Finally, I wanted to balance out the Basic Gray Taffeta Ribbon, so I added a couple 1/4 circles to the left side of the plaid strip.
Fun…it really only took about 1/2 hour to put together because of the sketch!
If you are a member of SUDSOL…go check out the entries. If you aren’t, you can click on the SUDSOL badge on my left column and get a FREE two-week trial. I love the programs like Chat & Challenge that they offer. Oh..yes…you must be a Stampin’ Up! demonstrator to join.
Today’s plan is to put stuff away in my Studio and work on my Stamp Club projects for Thursday night! I hope to get the May Card Kit cut and packaged, too! Have a wonderful day!
Thoughts and Prayers
Well, you know you’ve been gone a LONG time when you struggle to figure out how to start stamping! I took a completely relaxing, much needed break, but now I’m back! Hope you enjoyed the entries I preposted before I left.
Now, it seems we are heading into the busy months of summer. Hard to believe graduations are happening and school will be out next week. Our family has a TON of birthdays in June (mine included!) and Father’s Day…plus my son’s graduation from Ohio State University!
A friend of mine had surgery last week. I hear she is doing well. Since I was gone, I didn’t get a card out to her last week, but am sending this one out in the mail to her today. (Hope she doesn’t peek!)
I started with a base of Pumpkin Pie and used the background stamp, Bella Toile, with Pumpkin Pie ink over the front. My poor background stamps have been pretty neglected since the Big Shot came around! I used a scrap piece of Sweet Always Designer Paper I had on my desk and layered it onto Chocolate Chip. I ran Regal Rose and Whisper White cardstock (at the same time!) thru the Big Shot with the Scallop Oval Frame die…so I got two ovals and two scallop frames. I took the Regal Rose scallop frame and cut it in half and tucked it behind the Sweet Always DSP layer. Then I stamped the tree from Thoughts & Prayers on Whisper White…I used Chocolate Chip and Regal Rose markers to ink it up. I think the pink flowers look like the flowering crab trees we had about a month ago! Get Well Soon from Thoughts & Prayers is stamped in Pumpkin Pie on the Whisper White, also. I wasn’t going to use anything else on the card, but a cut out butterfly "landed" on my card when I was flipping thru my messy desk for my Paper Snips…I thought it looked pretty cool there, so I stamped the butterfly from Great Friends in Pumpkin Pie and cut it out. It is popped up with a dimensional.
Quick and easy card that packs a little WOW, don’t you think?
I just got some exciting news that I get to share in a week or so! Woohoo!!! I’m such a tease! lol!
Hope you had a wonderful Memorial Day weekend and paused a moment to thank all our service men and women who keep (and kept) our country safe! God Bless America!

Bloggers Challenge – Patriotic
Today’s Bloggers Challenge was to make a patriotic card in honor of Memorial Day. Yes…I know it is only Memorial Day and not the 4th of July…but I didn’t have any stamps that said Memorial Day! I’ve had this design in my head for a while and thought it would still be appropriate for a patriotic theme.
Now…did you guess right? They are supposed to be FIREWORKS! I asked my husband and he guessed flowers…then immediately said fireworks…so I’m hoping it is apparent to you, too!
I used the Daisies #2 die with Pacific Point, Whisper White and Real Red cardstock to make the fireworks. I used the centers and varied them on the different colors to hide the holes in the centers. The base card is Kraft cardstock folded to 4 x 9 to fit in a standard #10 envelope. The hat base is a square of Whisper White with Real Red cardstock cut into strips and layered on the white to make stripes. The hat band is Pacific Point. I rounded all the corners with the small corner rounder. I free hand cut the pennant with the words, Happy 4th of July, and added it to a "stick" of Kraft cardstock and attached some "fringe" to the side of the pennant.
I’m so happy when something turns out like I picture it in my head!
Have a safe Memorial Day weekend!
LAST CHANCE for my Vacation Special…ends Sunday, May 24.
Fifth Avenue Floral – Reinker watercolor
Last week, I demonstrated the Reinker Watercolor technique to a couple people who missed my class so they would know how to make up their card samples. Since I had the Fifth Avenue Floral rose on my table, I decided to finish it off into a card! I used Pixie Pink and Pretty in Pink reinkers for this one…I love the combination! I tried to leave a little more white space on this, too!
My base card is Pixie Pink and I added a strip of Sweet Always Designer Paper on the left side. Then I stamped "Life is what happens…" from Full of Life** on Whisper White, using my markers to color it Pixie Pink and Chocolate Chip. I layered it onto Chocolate Chip and then placed the Rose on dimensionals over the top edge. I cut two Little Leaves Sizzlets with my Big Shot from Certainly Celery and placed them under the Rose. This is a pretty simple card that packs a lot of WOW, I think! I still have several Rose samples sitting on my desk…I’m sure you’ll be seeing them in the future!
Remember…my VACATION SPECIAL is going on NOW!
**Full of Life is still available on the Dormant List.
Masculine Challenge Card – And Many Mower
Here is a card I made for the Late Night Stampers Masculine Challenge last week. I’m not sure it entirely came out the way it looked in my head. It is supposed to be a pocket and a belt across. The only stamping on it is the Happy Father’s Day greeting from And Many Mower in the Occasions Mini Catalog. But, I did use LOTS of texture!
I started with a base card of Kraft cardstock and added a layer of Very Vanilla. Then I added a wide stripe of Manchester Designer Paper down the center of the Very Vanilla. I created a pointed pocket from Kraft cardstock and used my scoring tool to make a diamond pattern with the score marks. Then I used my piercing tool to pierce stitches around the edges of the pocket and the edges of the Manchester Designer Paper in a zig zag pattern. I used a Chocolate Chip marker to connect the piercings for stitches. I used a strip of Always Artichoke cardstock and cut one end to look like a belt end and then added three Pewter Mini brads across the front. Last, I added a little Very Vanilla tag with Happy Father’s Day from And Many Mower stamp set with a little bit of Chocolate Chip ribbon held with another Pewter Brad. Oh…I did use my sponge dauber with Chocolate chip ink around all the edges for some added depth.
I’ll probably give this to my Father in law for Father’s Day!
Don’t forget about my VACATION SPECIAL going on NOW!
Great Friend card box
I made this Card Box with six cards for my friend in Alabama. We stopped there on our way to Hilton Head to visit and spend the night. I’m posting this early, but I’m sure we had a great time visiting with them! I hope she liked her gift.
This pattern is available to SUDSOL members. Sandy MacIver was so nice to share it with us. (You can get a two-week free trial to SUDSOL by clicking on my sidebar promotion!)
The base is Regal Rose with Walk in the Park Designer Paper from the Occasions Mini Catalog. I also used the White Satin Ribbon that is in the Mini to tie a bow around the front. Again, I used the Eyelet Border Punch (seems like I use that on every project!) with Basic Gray cardstock along the flap of the front.
On top, the closeup shows two butterflies and the greeting from Great Friend. I stamped the butterflies in Regal Rose and Baja Breeze on Whisper White and cut them out. I stamped the label outline in Baja Breeze and the Regal Rose words were placed in the center with my Stamp-A-Ma-Jig. I cut out around the label, then layered it on Regal Rose and cut it out again, leaving a small edge of Regal Rose showing. Finally I stamped L for Linda with Lovely Letters stamp set in Regal Rose on Whisper White and punched it with the Scallop Square punch. I layered it on Baja Breeze and then Basic Gray.
The cards I made three of each color – Regal Rose and Baja Breeze, then alternated the color for the layer under the Walk in the Park designer paper and used the Lovely Letters medallion again. I stamped each of the envelopes with her initial, too.
I’ve used this pattern quite a bit for gifts! Makes a nice presentation…
Remember…my Vacation Special is going on NOW!
