SUOC177 Star of Light

The theme this time on SUO Challenges is “Patriotic Colors”. I wanted to use a brand new set, but nothing was inspiring me…then I saw the Christmas set, Star of Light, and decided the stars would work well for my patriotic card this week…either as stars or fireworks!  I love when I can use sets for something different than what they were intended!

Here’s my card:

  • The base is 5-1/2 x 8-1/2 Real Red cardstock, scored at 4-1/4 and folded.
  • A 1-1/4 x 5-1/2 strip of Night of Navy cardstock was added across the front with a 1/4 x 5-1/2 strip of Silver Glimmer Paper added on top.
  • On the 3-3/4 x 3-3/4 layer of Whisper White cardstock, the large star image was stamped with Real Red and Night of Navy Ink.  The smaller single star with Real Red Ink a couple times, and the small trio of stars with Night of Navy Ink.  It was added to the front.
  • The base Real Red cardstock also has the trio of stars stamped with Night of Navy Ink in the corners.
  • Let’s Celebrate from Confetti Celebrations was inked with Real Red and Night of Navy Markers, then stamped on Whisper White and punched with the Pretty Label Punch and added to the front with Stampin’ Dimensionals.  A few more stars were added with Night of Navy Ink.
  • In the center of the stars/fireworks…whatever you think they are…are a couple small Clear Faceted Gems to make them sparkle!

What can you do with the Patriotic theme this week? Hard to believe that 4th of July will be here SOON!  Don’t forget to check out what the rest of the Design Team for SUO Challenges did this week with this theme! I’m sure they will have some great ideas!

SUOC 124 Stars and Stripes

It’s a fun challenge over on SUO Challenges this time…using Stars and Stripes in our projects!  Now, it doesn’t HAVE to be patriotic, but of course that is where my mind went first thing!  Here’s my creation!  Note the chevron strips on the embossed background and the stripes in the Epic Alphabet!  Fun, huh?

SUOC124 Stars and Stripes

Here are the details:

  • The base is 4-1/4 x 11 Real Red, folded in half.
  • The 3-1/2 x 4-3/4 layer of Whisper White is embossed with the Chevron pattern and layered on a 3-3/4 x 5 layer of Night of Navy, and placed on the front of the card.
  • A 2 x 4-1/2 strip of Night of Navy was punched at the top with the Ornate Tag Topper Punch.
  • The Star Framelits were used to cut the Dazzling Diamonds and Red Glimmer Paper, then placed on the tag with Stampin’ Dimensionals.
  • USA was stamped with Real Red on a 1-1/4 x 4 piece of Whisper White, then layered on a 1-1/2 x 4 piece of Real Red.  It was placed across the front with Stampin’ Dimensionals, too!
  • Finally, the 1/4″ Real Red Cotton Ribbon was tied at the top of the tag in a bow!

OK…make sure to go check out the rest of the SUO Challenge Team to see what they did this week with the Stars and Stripes theme!

CCMC331 Many Merry Stars

I know…it’s Thanksgiving!  HAPPY THANKSGIVING to everyone!  I hope that you saw my Banner Blessings card that posted yesterday.  Today for our Create with Connie and Mary sketch challenge, I went with a Christmas card, mainly because after today everyone’s thoughts will be more firmly focused on Christmas!  Have fun playing with this sketch, lots of great ideas from our Challenge Team this week!  I originally said this was Festival of Trees, but actually it is the tree image in Many Merry Stars stamp set in the Holiday Supplement catalog!

CCMC331

Here’s my take on the sketch:

CCMC332 Many Merry Stars

  • The base is 5 1/2 x 8 1/2 Real Red, folded in half.
  • On 4 x 5 1/4 layer of Sahara Sand, I added a 1 1/2 x 5 1/4 piece of Nordic Noel Designer Paper.
  • I covered the seam with a 1/4″ strip of Silver Glimmer Paper.
  • The Many Merry Stars tree image was stamped with Silver Ink on Real Red, Whisper White and Pacific Point, then used the Tree Punch to punch the images out.  I lined them up in a row above the Glimmer Paper.
  • In the center of each tree, I added a Rhinestone Jewel.
  • Finally, I stamped Tis the Season with Tuxedo Black ink on Whisper White and cut with the Project Life Framelits.

Every year, I always love doing a patriotic Christmas card.  I really like how this turned out!  Make sure to check out the rest of the fabulous Challenge Team designs this week over on Create with Connie and Mary.  Then grab your stamps and play along!  Enjoy your Turkey Day!

CCMC310 Beautiful Bunch (what else?)

OK…yes…just mildly obsessed with this stamp set, Beautiful Bunch, right now!  lol!  Can you take another one?  It’s a color challenge over on Create with Connie and Mary and I’m LATE getting my card done (real late!), so decided to pull out the set that gives me the quickest inspiration!  lol!

CCMC310 copy

Such patriotic colors…tomorrow is the 4th of July ALREADY!  The summer is going much too fast!  That always feels like the halfway point for me!  But here is my card:

CCMC310 Beautiful Bunch

And the details:

  • The base is 5 1/2 x 8 1/2 Whisper White folded in half.
  • I rounded the left side corners of the 4 x 5 1/4 piece of Coastal Cabana cardstock and placed on the base.
  • I used a 2 1/4 x 4 piece of red checked pattern from Maritime Designer Paper along the left side.
  • Next is a 4 x 3 1/4 piece of Whisper White that I rounded the corners on the left side.
  • I stamped the Flowering Flourishes (new to me!) with Coastal Cabana in the background.
  • Then I punched the flower from Beautiful Bunch twice with Real Red Ink on Whisper White and punched with the Fun Flower punch.  I stamped the center with Night of Navy ink on Whisper White and punched with the  7/8 Scallop Circle Punch.  The flower is put together using Stampin’ Dimensionals on placed over the Flowering Flourish.
  • I stamped Happy Birthday from And Many More in Night of Navy Ink in the bottom right corner.
  • Finally, I used the light red Blendabilities marker and colored my Rhinestones red for the center of the flower and along the edge!  Love being able to do that!

As a side note…could I get some PRAYERS for my husband today…he is at a very important job interview today…his 4th face-to-face interview with this company!  And, don’t forget to check out all the wonderful inspiration for this color challenge by the Challenge Team over on Create with Connie and Mary!  Then grab your stamps and play along!

SUOC99 Be The Star

It’s time for a new challenge over on SUO Challenges!  This time the theme is Summer:  Ocean, Beach or Patriotic!  That’s a nice range, so grab your stamps and play along!

I went with the Patriotic theme for mine using the new Stampin’ Up! Be The Star stamp set and Star Framelits!

SUOC99 Be The Star

Here are the details:

  • The base is 4 1/4 x 11 Pacific Point cardstock, folded in half.
  • On the 4 x 5 1/4 layer of Real Red, I embossed with the Stylish Stripes folder.
  • I added a panel of 1 1/4 x 4 Whisper White across the bottom.  On the You’re a Star greeting from Pictogram Punches I inked up with Real Red and Pacific Point Markers.  I punched the star from the new Silver Glimmer Paper and placed over the red star.
  • I stamped the Medium and Small stars from Be The Star with Pacific Point and Real Red and cut them out with the Star Framelits.  I added them to the front of the card with Stampin’ Dimensionals.
  • In the centers I punched more Silver Glimmer stars and added them with Mini Glue Dots.

This card has LOTS of sparkle in real life…I’m loving that Silver Glimmer Paper!  Make sure to check out the rest of the SUO Design Team over on SUO Challenges to see what they did this week with the summer theme!

Summer Silhouettes

I'm chuckling at this card today.  Our friend has a 4th of July birthday, so I always try to make her a red/white/blue birthday card.  For this one, the design could be either a sparkler or a birthday candle!  And…I love the greeting in Yippee Skippie stamp set, "Carbs…schmarbs…Eat the Cake!"  This is just SO her and part of the reason I purchased this stamp set!

I combined two challenges for this card.  The SCS "Try a New Technique" (TLC436) is Twisted Traditions 2…using traditional colors for a non-traditional card.  In my example, I'm using Red/White/Blue for a birthday card instead of a patriotic card!  And as a bonus, I used a flower set in a non-traditional way!   I also am following Technostamper's Monday Lunchtime Sketch (TCCS270).

Here are the details:

  1. The 4 1/4 x 11 Real Red cardstock is folded in half to form the base card.
  2. I embossed a 4 x 5 1/4 piece of Whisper White with the Mosaic Folder.
  3. I cut a 2 1/2 x 5 1/4 piece of Silver Glimmer Paper and adhered to the left side.
  4. I added a 1 x 4 piece of Island Indigo cardstock across the front, cut with a flag end.
  5. I used the Summer Silhouette's image and my Real Red and Island Indigo Markers to ink up the image and stamped on 1 1/2 x 5 Whisper White.  I used the top of the flower and Crushed Curry Marker for the flame/sparkler.  I layered that on Real Red cardstock and placed on the front with Stampin' Dimensionals.  There is also a Rhinestone Jewel just under the flame/sparkler.
  6. I stamped the greeting from Stampin' Up!'s Yippee Skippee with Real Red on a 1/2 x 3" piece of Whisper White, cut a flag end and added it on top of the Island Indigo strip.

Lots of fun, lots of sparkle…and I know she'll love it!!!

Woohoo! Published!

I just received a copy of Just Cards – HOLIDAYS, and I have TWO cards in the magazine!  Woohoo!  I sent in these two cards.

I made this first one last year for the 4th of July holiday challenge.  It uses the Stampin’ Up! Neighborhood Wheel and Celebrate Everything stamp set.

This next one uses the retired Stampin’ Up! stamp sets, Big Birthday Candle and Great Greetings.  This was also made for a Bloggers Challenge, I believe!

I was very excited to see my cards in the magazine!

See you tomorrow!

Blogger’s Challenge 78 – Non-traditional Christmas colors

I’m glad I finally was able to work on this card.  A patriotic Red/White/Blue card was one of the ideas I had floating in my head from when I first bought this Snow Swirled set several months ago.  I just never sat down to work on it.  This week’s Bloggers’ Challenge was to create a Christmas card with non-traditonal colors…I think red/white/blue are pretty non-traditional…at least in my mind.

It ended up being VERY simple.  I used Real Red Craft Ink and Brilliant Blue Craft ink on Whisper White, then clear embossed over those colors.  I used silver embossing powder for the "white" tree and cut it out, then popped it up with dimensionals over the red and blue ones.  "Sending you Holiday Peace" came from To You and Yours stamp set.  I punched it with the small oval and then layered it on Real Red.  The small stars were punched from Brushed Gold cardstock.  I layered the Whisper White on Brilliant Blue and then on Real Red base card.  Simple.  I tried adding ribbon and other embellishment, but it really took away from the feel of the card.  So…I’m letting it stand by itself and the message it portrays.

I’m headed out of town for the day, so won’t get a chance to check out the rest of the Bloggers’ creations until late evening.  I’m sure everyone will do an awesome job, like usual.

It is crunch time this weekend, as I’m sure it is for everyone else is, too.  My son and his girlfriend come into town on Tuesday evening for the holidays, I’m excited to see them.   I still have all my wrapping and baking to do, plus prepare for Christmas dinner.  I’m sure it will all get done…lol!

Patriotic Season of Friendship

After spending almost two hours in line this morning (and getting there at 6:30 AM so I could vote with my husband and son), I was inspired to come home and create this card.  Thank you to all of you who go out and brave the LONG lines to vote today.  We are blessed to live in a country where our voice is heard!

My Season of Friendship Card Kit purchasers will be happy that here is another sample using the Season of Friendship stamp set!  I stamped the tree in Basic Black on Whisper White, towards the right edge.  Then I added three 1/4" strips of Real Red cardstock along the left side.  I punched the stars with the Small Star punch from Pacific Point and adhered them with mini glue dots to the limbs of the tree.  I stamped the words Thank You from Family Accessories in Basic Black on Whisper White and punched with the small oval punch.  Then a border of Pacific Point with the Large Oval.  I punched a small hole next to the bottom of the tree and wrapped the 5/8 Real Red ribbon around and thru the hole to tie it. I’m happy that it turned out how I pictured it in my head!

Today I am spending the day packing up my craft items to take to the weekend stamping retreat.  I have a couple girlfriends coming into town Wednesday evening to spend the night and visit…then we leave right after lunch on Thursday to go to the retreat!  Woohoo!  We’ve been planning this so long, I can’t believe it is finally here.  There are about 50 ladies going…should be a great time!  It is held twice a year and I’ve been going since it started in 2005.  I’m working on getting some posts ready to publish while I’m gone.  Hopefully I won’t run into any server issues like last time!

Now…GO VOTE!
