Tropical Party
Whew…the Wedding Reception is OVER and I'm SO thankful it went well. Other than forgetting to bring containers to put leftover food, I did a pretty good job of remembering everything I had to take to the party house! And really, other than fruit, we didn't have a lot of extra food left over! It was a bigger group than I anticipated! BIG thanks to my friend, Sue, for her help with the food…always a bigger job than you can anticipate! Everyone raved about the food, so it was a success! Here is a picture of the happy couple with their wedding cake.

Gosh…I feel like I've been neglecting my Summer Mini stamps since the new catalog came out and now I have the Holiday Mini products in my hands, too! Since the Summer Mini only runs thru the end of August, today I thought I'd feature Stampin' Up!'s set, Tropical Party, that is one of my favorites! I followed Mary Jo's Monday's Lunchtime Sketch Challenge (TSSC135) to get me started.

And here is my interpretation:

I thought the words from the stamp set, Level 1 Hostess set, Afterthoughts, was pretty funny with the Coconut Drink image from Tropical Party! I started with a base of Old Olive cardstock. I used the umbrella pattern from Island Oasis Designer Paper and layered it on Tempting Turquoise cardstock. I used another pattern from Island Oasis DSP for the polka dots, then layered that on Old Olive. I tied the new Pumpkin PIe Taffeta Ribbon around to the front and tied with a knot.
I inked the Just for You image with Rose Red, then used Tempting Turquoise Marker for the "…so you don't have to share"…words and stamped it on Whisper White. I layered it on Old Olive. The coconut drink, I stamped on Whisper White with Chocolate Chip Classic Ink, cut it out, then placed it on a 1 3/8 circle of Rose Red cardstock. Fun!

Tropical Party SSSC75
As you know, I think it is so much fun to do sketch challenges. I picked up this sketch over at Sweet Sunday Sketch Challenge (SSSC75) and thought it looked fun. I must say, though, the little icons at the bottom of the sketch did give me a little problem! lol!

For my card, I wanted to use some of the new colors coming in with the next catalog! I started with a base of the new color, Marina Mist, because I knew I wanted to create a water theme with Stampin' Up!'s Tropical Party Stamp Set from the Summer Mini. I added a layer of Wild Wasabi, one of the returning In Colors, that I ran thru the Big Shot with the Perfect Polka Dots Impressions Folder.

I cut a Large Scallop Circle with the wonderful new In Color, Poppy Parade! I LOVE this new red! It pops! Inside, I cut a 3 3/4 circle from Whisper White, then half circles from Marina Mist and Sahara Sand so I could layer them across the bottom of the circle. I spritzed on Sahara Sand Ink with the Color Spritzer Tool and Marina Mist spritz for the water. I used a 1 1/4 circle template to create the sun with the new Daffodil Delight Stampin' Write Marker. The palm trees I inked up with Always Artichoke and Chocolate Chip Stampin' Write Markers and stamped over the "sand" and background Whisper White.
I added a row of the small flowers in Daffodil Delight and Poppy Parade, inked with the Stampin' Write Markers and cut out. I wrapped Kraft Taffeta Ribbon around and tied (it's retiring! Oh no!) and then stamped Just for You from Teeny Tiny Wishes and punched with the Small Oval Punch. I'm pretty happy with how I worked the icons across the bottom!

Stamping 411 – Tropical Party
Stamping 411 has a cool sketch this week! I can't wait to see what the Design Operators over on Stamping 411 did with it (I know…I say that every week!) But, I'm always surprised at how each of us intrepret the sketches. I don't know how Selene keeps coming up with these neat sketches!

I wanted a tropical feel to my card, so I pulled out Tropical Party! I started by stamping a few leaves along the bottom of the center Whisper White diamond piece with Old Olive Classic Ink. I stamped the Coconut Drink on scrap White and cut it out, then placed it on the leaves. I layered the Whisper White on Pumpkin Pie.
.jpg)
I used a base card of Tempting Turquoise, then added the stripe pattern from Island Oasis, layered on Old Olive. After I placed the diamond element, I stamped So Saffron, Rose Red and Pumpkin Pie flowers on scrap Whisper White, cut them out and secured on the front. I added Mini Brads to the centers of the flowers. I also stamped one of the leaves and cut it out to place under the flowers. Finally, I stamped Cheers to You (from the set of that name) on Whisper White, punched with the Large Oval Punch, then layered on the Scallop Oval cut from Old Olive cardstock. I colored the unbrella and straw with various Stampin' Write Markers.
So…cheers to my son and new daughter-in-law who just got married!!!!
Make sure to check out the rest of the Operators on Stamping 411 to see their fabulous creations!
Bloggers Challenge – A Sketch
Another Friday and time for Bloggers' Challenge. Lisa made up a sketch for us to use this week. As you know, I LOVE sketches! This one came together pretty quickly!

I started by cutting the Oval from Whisper White with the Ovals Die and the Big Shot. I also cut the Sahara Sand piece at the bottom of the oval at the same time. I tore the top edge and added sand granules with the Itty Bitty Backgrounds speckle stamp in Sahara Sand. I used a sponge dauber to add some Tempting Turquoise water above it. Then I inked up the palm tree from Tropical Party with Chocolate Chip and Old Olive Stampin' Write Markers, stamped it twice. I punched a 1 1/4" hole in a scrap piece of cardstock, then used a sponge dauber and Summer Sun to make the sun in the background.
I layered the oval on polka dot pattern from Island Oasis Designer Paper and then Sahara Sand cardstock. I ran a piece of Old Olive thru the Big Shot with the Perfect Polka Dots Impressions folder. I wrapped the 1" Chocolate Chip Ribbon around to the back and secured. The entire piece was adhered to the base card of Tempting Turquoise. Finally, I added two Kraft Corduroy Buttons and cut small slivers of Chocolate Chip cardstock to make the "thread". I used Mini Glue Dots to secure to the front of the card! I stamped Happy Birthday from Teeny Tiny Wishes in Chocolate Chip on Sahara Sand, punched with the Word Window and then punched the Modern Label from Chocolate Chip cardstock.
I like how it turned out! Hope you have a WONDERFUL weekend!

My first project is a pencil/pen pocket holder made from two Top Note diecuts put together. This was a prize for one of my downline who promoted to Senior Associate at last month's meeting. I adhere the two Top Notes length to length and along the sides to form the pocket. I used Stampin' Up!'s Tropical Party stamp set and stamped the leaves in Tempting Turquoise Classic Ink on the Tempting Turquoise background. I wrapped two pieces Melon Mambo Polka Dot Ribbon around to help keep it secure. The ends meet under the oval in the front for a finished look. I cut two ovals from the Ovals die, larger one from Pumpkin Pie cardstock and the smaller one from Whisper White. I stamped the leaves with Old Olive on the Whisper White. I added a Melon Mambo 5-Petal Flower Punch, then stamped the large flower in Pumpkin Pie on Whisper White and the small flower in Tempting Turquoise on Whisper White, cut them out, and adhered them with Stampin' Dimensionals to the front of the ovals. The pens I purchased from Stampin' Up! at Convention (I believe) last year. I loved that the colors matched the Tropical Party stamp set I wanted to use.

My next card using Tropical Party is a gate fold style card. This was my Make & Take at the downline meeting we held last month. I started with a 5 1/2 x 12 piece of Pixie Pink Cardstock and scored it at 2, 4, 8 and 10 inches. I stamped the small flower randomly across the front in Pixie Pink ink. I cut a 3×3 piece of Whisper White and stamped the leaves in Old Olive Classic Ink on the front. I stamped the large flower with Pumpkin Pie and the two small flowers with Pixie Pink on scrap Whisper White and cut them out. I added a Rose Mini Brad to the center of the large flower and popped it up with Stampin' Dimensionals. I layered the Whisper White on a 3 1/4 x 3 1/4 piece of Old Olive. It was adhered on only the left half to the front of the gate fold card.

Inside I cut a piece of 3 3/4 x 5 1/4 piece of Whisper White. I stamped more leaves in Old Olive and the Coconut drink in Chocolate Chip. I colored the straw and umbrella with Stampin' Write Markers in Pixie Pink, Old Olive and Pumpkin Pie. I cut out another Pixie Pink small flower and adhere it with a Stampin' Dimensional. I stamped Live, Laugh, Love, Happy Birthday from On Your Birthday Stamp set in Pumpkin Pie in the center.

My last card I used Stampin' Up!'s Sentimental Journey stamp set, Travel Journal Designer Paper and In A Word Stamp Set. I started with a base of Night of Navy cardstock and layered on Pumpkin Pie cardstock. I added another layer of Confetti White cardstock. Over the top half of the Confetti, I adhere Bashful Blue cardstock with a piece of Travel Journal Designer Paper on it. (LOTS of layers!) I pierced the Bashful Blue with my piercing tool and template across the top. I stamped Marvelous with my Night of Navy and Pumpkin Pie Stampin' Write Markers in the lower right corner of the Confetti cardstock. For the focal element, I stamped the car from Sentimenal Journey in Pumpkin Pie Classic Ink on Confetti White and punched with the Wide Oval Punch. I adhered it to the Medallion of Pumpkin Pie cardtock made with the Lots of Tags Sizzlets die. I added the compass in Garden Green Classic Ink and punched it with the 1" circle punch. I placed a Vintage brad in the center and popped it up with Stampin' Dimensionals. Finally, I added a knot of Pumpkin Pie 1 1/4 Striped Ribbon to the upper corner and punched two 1/4 circles from Garden Green and placed them in the upper right corner of the Designer Paper for some added interest.
I hope you've enjoyed my projects!

Coconut Shaped Favor Box and card – CCMC2
Today is Saturday Challenge #2 with Create with Connie and Mary…it is the only day we share our cards/projects on our personal blogs along with on the Create site for subscribers. Our subscribers are invited to play along for a chance to win one of two $75 merchandise gift certificates. We selected Party Favors as our theme this week…it seemed to fit with the Tropical Party, Island Oasis and Island Floral Bigz Die theme we've been doing. WINNERS of the Flip Flops have been announced, too, so check to see if you've won!
I made this Coconut shaped card as soon as I got my Tropical Party stamp set early last month and saved it for this week. I knew I wanted to save it for this week's challenge! Since this week's challenge is Party Favors, I adapted the card to a favor box, too! I love how they turned out!

On the right is the card, it folds up at the top. The straw just is adhered inside the card and the umbrella is attached to the front of the card. I made the straw by rolling up a small piece of Island Oasis striped designer paper and adhered it closed. I bent the tube so it looked like a straw. The umbrella is made by cutting Pumpkin Pie, Rose Red, Tempting Turquoise and So Saffron cardstock stacked together with the Circles #2 die (the large circle). Then I placed the stacked circles on the #2 Scallop Circles just so that one end hung over to be cut by the scallops. Once cut, I trimmed each of the colors so they layer on top of each other…Pumpkin Pie is the full one, Rose Red I cut off a little on the left side, Tempting Turquoise I cut off about 1/2 and So Saffron is just a sliver left on the right side. I placed a Tempting Turquoise Mini Brad at the top where they all come together.

For the Coconut, I just used a large 3 1/2 circle of Chocolate Chip cardstock cut with the Circle Scissors. I stamped Sanded Background with Chocolate Chip Classic Ink for a coconut fiber look on the front and back. I free-hand trimmed the top of the coconut to look like the stamp in Tropical Party. I made sure on the card that I left some of the folded edge at points along the top. On the favor box, I cut two of the same shape. I added an additional strip of Very Vanilla also free-hand cut to look like the inside of the coconut. Then I add the trio of flowers and leaves that were stamped and cut out. I added Mini Brads to the centers.

The Favor Box is the #2 Box XL Die that I cut off the top flap. I adhered two of the Coconut shapes, front and back. On the box, I trimmed off the bottom a little so it would sit evenly on the table. I would probably do the same with the card if I were going to make another one. Wouldn't these be FUN sitting on your table at a party?
Make sure to check out what the rest of the Create with Connie and Mary Design Team has done this week with Party Favors! I'm sure they will have wonderful ideas!

Stamping 411 – Tropical Party
Well, I'm finishing out this week featuring Tropical Party. I hope you got some great ideas using this set! I think it is SO much fun.

Today's Stamping 411 sketch challenge was a lot of fun, too! I hope you take a minute and play along with the Design Operators. Just link your creation to Mr. Linky over on the Stamping 411 blog. We love to see what you do with the sketch!

For my card, I started with a base card of Rose Red cardstock. I ran Whisper White thru the Big Shot with the Perfect Polka Dots Impressions Folder. I found a strip of the striped pattern from Island Oasis Designer Paper laying on my desk, so I used it for the base along the Old Olive cardstock. I stamped the large floral in Pumpkin Pie, Rose Red, Tempting Turquoise and Old Olive Classic Ink on Whisper White and cut them out. The Old Olive I used for leaves behind the flowers. I used Mini Brads for the centers and popped them up with Stampin' Dimensionals on the front. I punched three 1/2 circles from Rose Red, Old Olive and Pumpkin Pie and lined them up along the top. Then I stamped Just For You in Basic Brown on So Saffron and punched it with the Designer Label Punch. I tucked it under the top of the Old Olive layer.
I like how it turned out! Make sure to check out what the other Design Operators did over on Stamping 411! (And…did you catch Lee's ribbon tutorial over there this week? AWESOME!)
Tropical Party Again!
Yes, I'm still working with Stampin' Up!'s new Summer Edition stamp set, Tropical Party! I combined a couple challenges to make this card. First was the color challenge over on Colour Q. Then I used the Sketch Challenge over on Stampin' Connection (a website for demos).

.jpg)
Now…from the sketch, you might assume that I'd use the flower in Tropical Party…however, I'm doing this challenge with my team mate, Mary Brown, and I just KNEW she'd do her trio of flowers! So, I had to think of another way to use this sketch with the Tropical Flowers stamps. I decided to use the palm tree and the technique Watercolor Wash for my background with Shimmery White cardstock. I cheated just a little bit by using Chocolate Chip on the tree trunks (I couldn't use BLUE!), but I considered it a neutral. lol! I used my Stampin' Write Markers in Chocolate Chip and Certainly Celery for the palm trees and stamped it over the background. I layered it on Brilliant Blue cardstock.

To my base card of Tempting Turquoise, I added a strip of Certainly Celery that I ran thru the Big Shot with the Square Lattice Impressions Folder. I wrapped Crushed Curry Polka Dot Ribbon around it and tied with a knot. I punched the Modern Label with Brilliant Blue and did the same technique on the Shimmer White for Thinking of You (Trendy Trees) and punched with the Word Window punch. I stamped three small flowers in Brilliant Blue, Tempting Turquoise and Crushed Curry, punched them out, added Mini Brads to the centers and placed them on Stampin' Dimensionals in the bottom corner. I'm amazed…I really didn't think the colors will go well with this set, but I think I pulled it off!
Don't forget, it's Kerin's turn to give away Blog Candy today! Those little flip flops are SO cute…wouldn't you want one? Leave a comment on her blog…ANYONE can win!

Another Tropical Party and BLOG CANDY!
Yes, it's my turn to give away two of the CUTEST flip flop notepads that Mary made with the Island Floral Bigz Die in celebration of Tropical Party week over on Create with Connie and Mary! ANYONE can leave a comment on THIS post for your chance to win one of two notepads. Plus, see the other ways you can win at the bottom of this post!
I think I've mentioned that Stampin' Up!'s Tropical Party is one of my FAVORITE sets in the Summer Mini. Not only is it great for cardmaking, it has LOTS of possibilities for scrapbooking, too! I used Mary Jo's Technostamper Sketch Challenge today (TSSC120) as a basis for my card. I decided to flip it on its side for my card.
I started with the base Old Olive cardstock. I added the umbrella pattern from Island Oasis Designer Paper. Then I used the Pumpkin Pie Polka Dot from the same package as the other layer.

For my main element, I inked up the Live, Laugh & Love Happy Birthday stamp from Stampin' Up!'s On Your Birthday stamp set with my Stampin' Write Markers in Chocolate Chip and Rose Red. I stamped the palm leaves from Tropical Party in Old Olive in the corners. The coconut I inked up with Chocolate Chip and used my Stampin' Write Markers to color the umbrella and straw. I cut it out and popped it up on Stampin' Dimensionals. I stamped and cut out three of the small flowers in Tropical Party in Rose Red, Pumpkin Pie and So Saffron, then placed them along the top with Stampin' Dimensionals again. I love how this turned out!

Tropical Party and Blog Candy
I did find another sketch challenge to play along over on Sweet Sunday Sketch Challenge, SSC67. It looked like fun and I thought immediately of the new Island Floral Bigz Die that could be used for the flower focal element.
My card ties in with the Tropical Party theme we have going on over on Create with Connie and Mary this week! Subscribers are getting a chance to see some fun projects made with Stampin' Up!'s Tropical Party stamps, Island Floral Bigz Die and Island Oasis Designer paper.

I started with a base card of Tempting Turquoise cardstock. I added a layer of So Saffron that I ran thru the Big Shot with the Square Lattice Impressions Folder. I made my "designer paper" in the background by stamping the large flower in Tropical Party randomly on Whisper White cardstock in the colors of Pumpkin Pie, Rose Red, Tempting Turquoise and So Saffron. I layered that piece on Pumpkin Pie. I did add some real designer paper with the Polka Dot Print in Island Oasis Designer Paper, then added a strip of So Saffron on top, with the Happy Birthday greeting from Teeny Tiny Wishes. I also wrapped some Pumpkin Pie ribbon around and tied with a knot.
The flower I ran Rose Red and Pumpkin Pie cardstock thru the Big Shot with the Island Floral Bigz Die, then ran it thru again in the Square Lattice Impressions Folder. I punched Boho Blossom from So Saffron for the center and added a Circle Ice Rhinestone Brad in the center. This is popped up with dimensionals on the front. I like it! It is nice and bright!
