New Studio Reveal!

May 9, 2012 By Connie | 105 Comments

Finally!  My room is done…well, except for a few decorations!  I had my first Reveal Class in here on Monday night!  It seats 12 people comfortably.  I've got some pictures for you and will try to explain what I use each cabinet for.  I have a LOT of empty cabinets yet…which is a GOOD thing!  I've moved a couple things around, but for the most part, it is working out as I planned.

EDIT:  I've tried to respond to those that have asked.  The cabinets are Shiloh Beaded Inset Doors with Medium Maple and a Mocha Glaze and are a wonderful quality!  Love the soft close drawers.  Terry King from Heartland Home Cabinetry in Sunbury, Ohio was the cabinet designer who spent HOURS and HOURS with me to create and design my dream studio and orchestrated the installation of everything.  His wife is a quilter, so he "got" that I needed lots and lots of drawers for organizing all my stamping stuff.  And thanks to Patti Willey, a fellow stamper and cabinet designer, who helped point me in the right direction with the initial layout concept of the room.

This is the view from the entrance into my room from the family room area.  The first table will only be in place when I have larger groups like Monday night…otherwise I'll take it down and have open space.

This is a photo of my main working area.  It is a U shaped area in the back left corner.  The desk area is huge and I have two stools in place on the front side to take orders or to have a friend over to stamp.  The back wall holds my raised cutter station.  The countertops are Corian…love them and I have a couple under-counter lights.  I went with a pre-fab wood floor…I think it will be easy to dust and clean!  I painted the walls a shade darker than Pear Pizzazz.

You can see the tall custom built unit on the right with SEVEN narrow drawers!  My ribbon is stored in a couple of the drawers…yes, I have a LOT of ribbon.  My grid paper, circle scissors in one drawer, miscellaneous felt pieces, etc. in the bottom drawer.  Above the drawers, the cabinet holds my second Big Shot machine, Xyron machines and my baskets that I use to hold class supplies.

This is one of the drawers pulled out so you can see how I organized my ribbon.  This is the current ribbon drawer.  There are wood dividers to hold them in place…nice and snug!

Continuing around the corner from the custom cabinet is my die cutting area.  It is a raised height to make it easier to stand and use the Big Shot.  I also have a stool in the corner I can pull out to use to sit for big prep times.

This is the cabinet above the Big Shot filled with all my dies.

The pull out drawers below the Big Shot hold my current stamp sets..there are a total of 6 pullout drawers.  I'm waiting to clear out the retiring sets and then will put in dividers to help hold the stamps upright.

Continuing along that wall (with my die cutting area) is space for two tables for smaller classes.

The entrance wall with the double doors has two pantries…filled with all my retired stamp sets.

My goal is to convert the wood mount to clear mount and combine both cabinets of stamp sets into one cabinet.  These are a little messy until I sort out the sets that will retire.

On the left wall are my paper racks…they hold 8 1/2 x 11, Designer Paper and 12×12.  I have bins at the top to hold miscellaneous things like my SU fabric, chipboard, etc.  I just put the Create decor elements on the wall across the top of the racks.

A closeup of my desk area and the glass front cabinet above.  Right now I just have some apothecary jars filled with buttons on display.  Will probably put some of my finished items up there to display.

One of the file drawers organizes my scraps.  I adhered the sides of the file folders together so the scraps don't fall out, then labeled them and added a Round Tab in the color of the cardstock.

A different view of the space from the center of the room.

Below my raised cutting station on the back wall, the top drawers hold my punches.  The pullouts below hold all the brads and buttons…I used the same wood dividers as the ribbon drawers  to hold them in place here, too.

So…tell me what you think!!!!  Was it worth the FOUR months wait to get it all done?  I think so!  My husband says I sabotaged the sump pump so it stopped working and flooded the basement so I could get this done.  lol.  Sort of wished I would have thought of it!

Thanks for stopping by!

I love stamping cards, altering 3D items and making little favors. I've been stamping for over 19 years and had my 18th year Stampin' Up! anniversary in early May. I love being part of something that sparks my creativity and hear people comment, "you MADE this?" I also enjoy sharing that passion with others in my classes! If you live anywhere in the Delaware, Dublin, Powell, Lewis Center, Hilliard or surrounding Columbus, Ohio areas, join us! I love to meet new stamping friends. Email me for a current class schedule... I'm adding new classes all the time!

Sooo beautiful, Connie!  Who did your cabinet work? (inquiring minds want to know!)  Also, what is the sq footage for your space?  My Mom and I are looking for a new house and at least that would give me a good idea what a stamping/class space would require.   Right now I have everything together in a BIG studio, so it is hard to envision the space just for stamping.
    Thanks! (and lucky, lucky YOU!)

I didn't read the other 65 comments, so I am probably repeating what everybody said:  WOW!!  Every detail has been well thought out!  You did an amazing job, and I am totally jealous — LOL!!  The best thing you did was to make sure there was a sink with running water nearby — next to stamps and inks, it is a must-have!!  Congratulations on a job well-done; and no, 4 months was not too long at all when it ends up like this.

WOW is all I can say!!  So worth the wait if you ask me!  I wish I would have thought of your husband's idea when our sump pump malfunctioned.  But that was before I discovered the Stamping World.  Note to self to remember this.
Enjoy your room it's well deserved !!!!!! Your cabinets are truly awsome.

Connie….LOVE your new space!  I've been dreaming of a space like this and actually worked many hours with someone to draw up some plans, but haven't put them in to action, yet.  Can you tell me what the size of your room is?  Love the color of the walls, too!  I'm green with envy!
