Welcome to Create with Connie and Mary’s Creatively Simple Challenge! Each month Mary and I will pick a theme. This month the theme is Animals! We will design our cards using this theme!

SEASIDE BAY

I think the Seaside Bay Bundle is so sweet! I love this bird image (and the crab!) I needed a bunch of Sympathy cards, so made this one more masculine looking.

Stampin’ Details:

The base is 5-1/2 x 8-1/2 Crumb Cake cardstock, scored at 4-1/4 and folded.
A 4 x 5-1/4 layer of By the Bay DSP was added on top.
A 1 x 4 strip of Crumb Cake was added across the front.
The scenic pattern of By the Bay DSP was cut with the Stitched Rectangle, then stamped with the seashells along the bottom and greeting across the top in Soft Suede Ink. It was added to the front with Stampin’ Dimensionals.
The bird was stamped with Soft Suede Ink and colored with Light Crumb Cake Stampin’ Blends, then cut with the dies. It was added to the front with Stampin’ Dimensionals.
Some Faux Sea Glass Shapes were added to the sand.

SUOC89 So Very Grateful

Today our theme was One Layer Cards (embellishments ok) over on SUO Challenges! Now…you know me and that is a REAL challenge for me! I just don't DO one layer! Comes from being in so many swaps over the years that require more than one layer! lol! But…I thought this turned out pretty good…and even gives the illusion of more than one layer with the scored edges! I also rounded the bottom corners for a more interesting look.

I've been doing more and more watercoloring with markers this way. I'll first watercolor the image, then after it dries, I go back with the marker along the edges. The AquaPainter lightens the watercolored centers and the straight on marker darkens the edges…I love the contrast!

Here are the details:

The base is 4 1/4 x 11 Whisper White, folded in half.
I scored the edges all around the front of the card at 1/4 and 1/2 to create a double line all around.
I stamped the So Very Grateful flower image with Black Stazon in the lower left corner, then Watercolored with my AquaPainter and Real Red, Crushed Curry, Wisteria Wonder, Old Olive and Gumball Green Markers.
So Sorry is from the So Sorry greeting stamp set and I stamped it in Black Stazon, too.
Finally, I finished the center of the flowers with small Pearls.

Love & Sympathy

I needed a quick Sympathy card, so made up a few of these for my stash. I love these colors together! Raspberry Ripple, Basic Black, and Naturals White cardstock!

A few details:

The base is 4 1/4 x 11 Naturals White cardstock. I like that it is a little thicker for the base than Whisper White.
Layer on a 4 x 5 1/4 piece of Raspberry Ripple cardstock, embossed with the Honeycomb Folder.
I stamped the flower from Love & Sympathy on 2 1/4 x 4 piece of Naturals White cardstock, coloring it with the Raspberry Ripple and Always Artichoke Markers directly onto the stamp.
I layered it on a 2 1/2 x 4 1/4 piece of Basic Black cardstock, then tied a knot in the Raspberry Ripple Satin Stitched Ribbon and adhered the ends behind the Basic Black layer.
I added the greeting with Basic Black ink on the front.
Finally, a touch of bling with a small pearl at the base of the flower.

Pretty, elegant and very easy to make!

Flower Fest again!

OK, I'm slightly obsessed with Stampin' Up!'s Flower Fest stamp set. And, to be honest, it really was my least favorite one in the Summer Mini catalog at first! Now that I've played with it…I really am enjoying how quickly (most!) cards come together with it!

I loved the SCS Color Challenge on yesterday's card, so I pulled out those same colors again today. Sadly, I'm in need of a couple Sympathy cards for a dear friend and one for my husband's co-worker.

I started with the base of Cherry Cobbler cardstock. I layered on Very Vanilla that I ran thru the Big Shot with the Elegant Bouquet Impressions Folder (it has been a LONG time since I've used that folder!) I added a strip of Love Letter Designer Paper in the houndstooth pattern. I wrapped around the double-bow Cherry Cobbler Seam Binding Ribbon (yes! It is still available to order!) I stamped the large flower in Basic Black on Cherry Cobbler cardstock, then punched with the Fancy Flower Punch. I stamped the center again on Very Vanilla and cut it out, then placed a Black Flower Brad in the center with a Rhinestone Jewel. I stamped "Please Know that I Care" from Thoughts and Prayers stamp set on Very Vanilla and punched with the Large Oval, then layered it on a Basic Black Scallop Oval punch. Finally, I added two leaves from Flower Fest stamped with Basic Black on Old Olive and cut out.

I think it makes a very elegant card suitable for a sympathy card.

Asian Artistry

Hi everyone! I'm back from the LONG weekend stamping retreat, but still have my friend, Linda, here today. Wow…the time went by SO fast! I couldn't believe it! Seems like we just unpacked everything and it was time to pack it all pack up. I love getting together with this group of women! All so VERY talented. There were about 30 of us there this time. In the fall, there are always about 45-50!

I did get a lot done. I made up the Bridal Shower Invitations for my future daughter-in-law's shower in a few weeks. I also did a lot of sympathy cards for my mother-in-law since she told me she was out. I taught a lot of people how to make the paper roses that are so popular again right now. I remember making them so many years ago from the Carol Duvall Show!

Today's card is adapting one I found online using Stampin' Up!'s set, Asian Artistry. It is one of the Level 2 Hostess Sets you can earn. I've had several hostesses order this set recently, so here is an idea for them! Very easy to mass produce!

I started with a base of Dusty Durango. On top of that is a Whisper White layer that I ran thru the Big Shot with the Perfect Polka Dots Impressions Folder. I added a strip of Always Artichoke cardstock and stamped Sharing your Sorrow from Thoughts and Prayers Stamp Set. I added a band of Black Satin Ribbon (goes perfectly with the Asian theme of the card!)

For the focal piece, I stamped the bamboo and bird from Asian Artistry in Always Artichoke on Whisper White and layered it onto Dusty Durango cardstock. This panel was popped up with Dimensionals. I watercolored the bird with my Dusty Durango Stampin' Write Marker and AquaPainter.

Not too bad for doing these at 2:00 AM in the morning, huh? lol! Hope you have a great week!
