Creatively Simple 5 – Beauty of Friendship

Welcome to Create with Connie and Mary’s second Creatively Simple Challenge!  Each month Mary and I will pick a theme…this month it is “Thinking of You” and we each create a simple card every week using that theme!

I used Stampin’ Up!’s Beauty of Friendship Stamp set for today’s card.  The leaves in Ohio just have a tinge of color to them.  One of the trees that I love are the bright yellow aspens!  They are beautiful…especially when you find a grove of them!  This card was super simple!

 

Stampin’ Details:

  • The base is 4-1/4 x 11 Bumblebee cardstock, scored at 5-1/2 and folded.
  • The 4 x 5-1/4 layer of Basic White was stamped with the tree trunk from Beauty of Friendship in Early Espresso and the two tree topper stamps…outline and detail…with Bumblebee Ink.  I stamped full strength and then stamped off for each stamp, giving it a nice feathering look.  The ground was stamped the same way with Bumblebee Ink.
  • A 1 x 5-1/4 strip of Blackberry Beauty Designer Paper was added down the right side and some Gold Shimmer Ribbon was added to hide the seam and adhered in the back.
  • Thinking of You from Beauty of Friendship was stamped with Early Espresso Ink on Bumblebee cardstock, then cut with the Frightful Tags Die.  (I love this shape of tag die…so perfect for so many greetings!)  It was popped up on the front with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

 

To make this card even easier and without using the Cut & Emboss, you could just use a strip of paper and cut the end at an angle.  Make sure to check out what Mary did this week for her “Thinking of You” Creatively Simple card over on Create with Connie and Mary!  Stay tune next week for another Creatively Simple card!

Wow!  Another Thursday has rolled around and you know that means it is time for a Create with Connie and Mary Thursday Challenge.  I love this week’s sketch!

BEAUTY OF FRIENDSHIP

I used the tree from the Beautiful Trees Dies instead of a rectangle…and love how it looks in it’s wintery garb!  And I’ve always loved red cardinals…he really pops out against the gray!

Stampin’ Details:

  • The base is 5-1/2 x 8-1/2 Smoky Slate cardstock, scored at 4-1/4 and folded to form the base card.
  • A 1-1/2 x 3-3/4 piece of Basic White was torn across the top and added to a 3-3/4 x 5 piece of Peaceful Place Designer Paper.
  • The DSP was layered onto a 3-7/8 x 5-1/8 piece of Real Red cardstock.
  • The tree from Beautiful Trees Dies was cut from Smoky Slate, then embossed with the Bark Embossing Folder.  It was added to the front with slivers of Foam Strip Adhesive.
  • The shadow of the tree from Beauty of tree stamp set was stamped with stamped-off Smoky Slate Ink.
  • Thinking of You from Beauty of Friendship stamp set was stamped with Basic Gray Ink on scrap Basic White cardstock, then cut with the label die in the Beautiful Trees Dies.  It is added with Stampin’ Dimensionals.
  • The bird was cut with the Beautiful Tree Dies from Real Red cardstock and added to the tree.
  • Some Subtle Shimmer Sequins were added in the background.

This would be a EASY card to duplicate for bulk Christmas cards…the dies do most of the work!  Go check out what the rest of the Challenge Team did with this color combination over on Create with Connie and Mary!

Saturday Blog Hop – Pastel Chalk Techniques

This week’s blog hop theme is Pastel Chalk Techniques (or watercolor pencils if they didn’t have the pastels yet!)  I can’t wait to see some ideas for the new Soft Pastels Assortment that Stampin’ Up! has in the catalog.  I played around for quite a while…so fun!  I finally decided to use this vibrant background, made with the pastels, for today’s blog hop card.

BEAUTY OF FRIENDSHIP

Stampin’ Details:

  • The base is 4-1/4 x 11 Basic Gray, scored at 5-1/2 and folded.
  • The 4 x 5-1/4 layer of Basic White cardstock was colored with layers of Soft Pastels Assortment.  I first roughed up the end a little (it has sort of a film on it), then rubbed quite firmly directly onto the cardstock with the end.  I used my fingers to blend the colors together…using a different finger for each color so they don’t muddy!  (I never said it wasn’t messy!  lol!)
  • I set the chalks with a Fixative Spray so they didn’t rub off.
  • The tree and bird from Beautiful Trees Dies were cut from Basic Black cardstock, then added to the front with Black Stampin’ Dimensionals.
  • The ground is a 1 x 4 piece of Basic Black torn along one edge and added to the bottom.
  • The greeting was stamped with Memento Black Ink on Basic White cardstock, then cut with the Beautiful Trees Die and added with Mini Stampin’ Dimensionals.
  • A trio of Elegant Faceted Gems were added to the background.

Saturday Blog Hop – Evergreen

This month we have been featuring themes that revolve around the title names of songs that have colors in them!  Our last color theme is “Evergreen” sung by Barbra Streisand.  This song has special meaning to me since they played it in our wedding…41 years ago!  Gosh…hard to believe it has been that long!

BEAUTY OF FRIENDSHIP

Since we set these themes up well in advance, it was a surprise that one of the new In Colors is called Evening Evergreen!  Perfect timing!  I used the Beauty of Friendship stamp set for today’s card.

Stampin’ Details:

  • The base is 4-1/4 x 11 Soft Succulent cardstock, scored at 5-1/2 and folded.
  • The 4 x 5-1/4 layer of Soft Sea Foam cardstock was embossed with the Tasteful Textures Embossing Folder.
  • The Soft Succulent Open Weave Ribbon was tied around a 2-1/2 x 4 piece of Evening Evergreen cardstock and was added to the front.
  • The 1 x 5-1/4 strip of Pansy Petals Designer Paper was placed down the right side.
  • On a 2-1/4 x 3-3/4 piece of Basic White cardstock, the tree trunk from Beauty of Friendship was stamped with Early Espresso Ink the solid layer of leaves and ground with Soft Succulent Ink and the detailed leaves with Evening Evergreen.
  • It was layered on a 2-1/2 x 4 piece of Soft Succulent cardstock and added to the front with Stampin’ Dimensionals.
  • The greeting from Beauty of Friendship was stamped on a 3/4 x 2-1/2 piece of Soft Sea Foam cardstock with Evening Evergreen Ink and added with Stampin’ Dimensionals.
  • A trio of green Genial Gems was added to the background.
